I let the shower run over me
Let its rhythm sink into my skin
The continuous pelt a reminder
Of the fallen world we live in
The feed is raging, contention rising
Anger ripping through the seams
As evil spills forth over the fabric
Of this broken American dream
And deep within my shriveled heart
My own evils take the scene
Pridefulness, self-centeredness
On wickedness my heart is keen
I let the shower run over me
Let its rhythm sink into my skin
I can’t ignore the trouble outside
Nor the trouble deep within
We’re living on the precipice
Precarity is our state
Nation of entrenched iniquity
We hold our breath, we wait
And deep within my shriveled heart
Lies precarity just the same
The broken joys and hidden sin
Peace and life it maims
I let the shower run over me
Let its rhythm sink into my skin
When will justice rain down
And contrition come rushing in?
Lord, wash this land with healing
Bring justice for the oppressed
Let hope be overflowing
May there be redemption and rest
Lord, set a right spirit within me
Cleanse me of my selfish ways
My repentance comes before You
Lead me in Your everlasting way
I let the shower run over me
Let its rhythm sink into my skin
The continuous pelt a reminder
Of the hope of Christ rushing in
